1. Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Pankaj Saran has been appointed as India's new ambassador to Russia. Saran, currently the high commissioner of India to Bangladesh, will replace P.S. Raghavan.

भारतीय विदेश सेवा (आईएफएस) के अधिकारी पंकज सरन को रूस में भारत के नए राजदूत के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया है। वर्तमान में सरन बांग्लादेश में भारत के उच्चायुक्त हैं। वह पी.एस. राघवन का स्थान लेंगे।

2. Indian-origin South African freedom fighter Ahmed Kathrada has been awarded the 'Freedom of the City' award of CapeTown, becoming only the sixth such recipient in the country's oldest city. Kathrada was a close confidante of South Africa's first black President and global anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.

भारतीय मूल के दक्षिण अफ्रीकी स्वतंत्रता सेनानी अहमद कथराडा को केपटाउन के ‘फ्रीडम ऑफ द सिटी’ सम्मान से सम्मानित किया गया है। कथराडा इस देश के सबसे प्राचीन शहर में यह सम्मान प्राप्त करने वाले छठे व्यक्ति हैं। कथराडा दक्षिण अफ्रीका के पहले अश्वेत राष्ट्रपति और विश्वभर में रंगभेद विरोध के प्रतीक नेलसन मंडेला के करीबी रहे हैं।

3. Fertiliser cooperative IFFCO's Joint Managing Director Rakesh Kapur has been elected as Vice-President of the Paris-based International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) for two years.

उर्वरक विनिर्माता सहकारी कंपनी इफ्को के संयुक्त प्रबंध निदेशक राकेश कपूर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय उर्वरक उद्योग संघ (आईएफए) का उपाध्यक्ष निर्वाचित किया गया है। आईएफए पेरिस में आधारित है और इसमें कपूर इस पद पर दो साल के लिए चुने गये हैं।

4. HSBC Holdings Plc., which is Europe’s largest bank having its headquarters in Britain, announced shutting of its private banking operations in India. The decision to close private banking operations was taken after a strategic review of the business by HSBC group. This review showed that its business in India is non-viable. According to media reports, HSBC’s private banking business in India has about 70 staff.

ब्रिटेन में मुख्यालय वाले एचएसबीसी होल्डिंग्स पीएलसी., जोकि यूरोप का सबसे बड़ा बैंक है, ने घोषणा की कि वह भारत में अपने निजी बैंकिंग परिचालन को बंद कर देगा। निजी बैंकिंग परिचालन को बंद करने का निर्णय एचएसबीसी समूह ने इस व्यवसाय की वृहद समीक्षा में किया, जिसमें इसे संभवत: अलाभकारी माना गया। मीडिया रिपोर्टों के अनुसार एचएसबीसी के भारतीय निजी बैंकिंग परिचालन में लगभग 70 लोग कार्यरत हैं।

5. Union Govt. extended the usage criterion of the RuPay debit cards under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in order to avail of the in-built insurance cover to 90 days. Under PMJDY RuPay Debit Card with an inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs.1 lakh is also provided to account holders. To avail this facility the RuPay Card holder has to carry-out at least one successful financial or non-financial transaction within 45 days to claim the insurance claim. This has now been extended to 90 days as this condition was posing problem to many RuPay Card holders.

केन्द्र सरकार ने प्रधानमंत्री जन धन योजना (पीएमजेडीवाई) के तहत जारी किए गए रूपे डेबिट कार्डों के धारकों को कार्ड के साथ मिलने वाली दुर्घटना बीमा-कवर सुविधा के लिए कार्ड प्रयोग करने की समयावधि को बढ़ाकर 90 दिन कर दिया है। प्रधानमंत्री जन धन योजना के तहत खाता खुलाने वाले लोगों को रुपे डेबिट कार्ड के साथ 1 लाख रुपए की दुर्घटना बीमा सुविधा भी प्रदान की जाती है। इस लाभ को हासिल करने के लिए अभी तक दुर्घटना होने से 45 दिन पूर्व इस कार्ड का से कम से कम एक वित्तीय या गैर-वित्तीय लेन-देन किए जाने का नियम था। लेकिन इसके चलते तमाम कार्ड धारकों को असुविधा हो रही थी। इसको देखते हुए सरकार ने इस समयावधि को बढ़ाकर 90 दिन कर दिया है।

6. India's ODI cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni bagged his first endorsement deal outside the country, signing up to be the brand ambassador of Dubai-based hospitality and event management company Grand Midwest Group for three years.

भारत के वनडे क्रिकेट कप्तान महेंद्र सिंह धोनी दुबई स्थित हास्पिटेलिटी और इवेंट मैनेजमेंट कंपनी ग्रांड मिडवेस्ट ग्रुप के तीन साल के लिये ब्रांड दूत बन गए हैं। देश के बाहर महेंद्र सिंह धोनी का यह पहला करार है।

7. India successfully test-fired indigenously built nuclear-capable Agni-I missile, capable of hitting a target at a distance of 700 kms, from a test range off the Odisha coast as part of Strategic Forces Command (SFC) training exercise. The surface-to-surface, single-stage missile, powered by solid propellants, was test-fired from a mobile launcher from launch pad-4 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island).

भारत ने परमाणु आयुध ले जाने में सक्षम और 700 किलोमीटर तक की दूरी पर स्थित लक्ष्य को भेद सकने वाली स्वदेशी तौर पर विकसित अग्नि-1 मिसाइल का सफल परीक्षण किया। यह परीक्षण ओडिशा तट के निकट स्थित एक परीक्षण रेंज से ‘स्ट्रेटेजिक फोर्सेज कमांड’ के प्रशिक्षण अभ्यास के तहत किया गया। सतह से सतह पर मार करने में सक्षम यह एकल चरणीय मिसाइल ठोस प्रणोदकों से संचालित होती है। इसका परीक्षण अब्दुल कलाम द्वीप (व्हीलर द्वीप) पर स्थित इंटीग्रेटेड टेस्ट रेंज के लॉन्च पैड-4 से किया गया।

8. The IAAF has named American decathlete Ashton Eaton and Ethiopian middle-distance runner Genzebe Dibaba as World Athletes of the Year. Eaton broke his own decathlon world record at the world championships in Beijing. Eaton won world gold in Moscow in 2013, a year after clinching Olympic gold in London (2012). Dibaba is the current world record holder in the women's 1500m.

आईएएएफ ने अमेरिकी डेकाथलीट एस्टोन ईटोन और इथियोपिया की मध्यम दूरी की धाविका गेंजेबे दिबाबा को वर्ष का विश्व एथलीट चुना है। ईटोन ने बीजिंग में हुई विश्व चैम्पियनशिप में डेकाथलन में अपना विश्व रिकॉर्ड तोड़ा था। ईटोन ने मास्को में 2013 में स्वर्ण पदक जीता जबकि लंदन ओलंपिक 2012 में भी पीला तमगा हासिल किया था। दिबाबा वर्तमान में महिलाओं की 1500 मीटर दौड़ में विश्व रिकॉर्डधारी हैं।

9. Prof. Y. Sudershan Rao, who was appointed Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) in July 2014 by the Narendra Modi-led Union Govt, has resigned from the post.

प्रो. वाई. सुदर्शन राव, जिनको नरेन्द्र मोदी के नेतृत्व वाली केन्द्र सरकार ने जुलाई 2014 में भारतीय इतिहास अनुसंधान परिषद (आईसीएचआर) का अध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया था, ने अपने पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया।
