FATEHGARH SAHIB (PUNJAB): Rahul Gandhi today visited the family of a debt-ridden farmer, who committed suicide last week, barely a month after he had met the Congress Vice President to apprise him of farmers' woes.Rahul will participate in 'bhog' (post-death ritual) of Surjit Singh who had committed suicide after consuming poison following crop loss on June 10 at Daduwal village in the district, party sources said here.

The results of the top ten ranks in IIT-JEE Advanced, the entrance test for the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, were declared late on Wednesday evening. With 429 marks, Chandigarh’s Himanshu Gupta, a student of Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, emerged as the north India topper, with All India Rank (AIR) 7.“I was expecting a rank within the top 50-100, but I had no idea I would be in the top 10,” said Himanshu. He had started preparing for IIT JEE in Class IX. “For the first two years, I was not very serious about it. But in my 11th and 12th, I started taking my studies seriously. Initially I used to study for 8-9 hours, but as the entrance exam date came closer, I started dedicating 11-12 hours to my studies.”Himanshu attributes his success to his parents and believes it takes a lot of hard work and proper planning to crack IIT’s joint Entrance Exam. “The most important thing is to make a fixed schedule, and to stick to it till the end,” he says.

Nine people were killed when a white gunman entered a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, and opened fire, the city’s police chief said on Thursday.One other person was wounded and taken to a hospital, Chief Gregory Mullen told reporters about four hours after the shooting on Wednesday evening.Describing the shooting as a hate crime, Mr. Mullen said: “It is unfathomable that somebody in today’s society would walk into a church when people are having a prayer meeting and take their lives.”He also said that an all-clear had been sounded after an earlier bomb threat in the area of the church.

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party government's new advertisement campaign through a two-minute TV spot is all about chief minister Arvind Kejriwal though it has smartly worked around the Supreme Court directive that no photograph of a CM can be placed in a government advertisement. In the course of the ad film, Kejriwal becomes Arvind and all the beimaan (corrupt) - presumably the media too as the provocation is a TV debate - are shown to be arrayed against him.

Symantec has observed an increase in a "particular" type of spear-phishing attack targeting mobile users. The purpose of the attack is to gain access to the victim’s email account."This social engineering attack is very convincing and we’ve already confirmed that people are falling for it," the security firm said.Thinkstock Thinkstock To pull off the attack, the bad guys need to know the target’s email address and mobile number; however, these can be obtained without much effort. The attackers make use of the password recovery feature offered by many email providers, which helps users who have forgotten their passwords gain access to their accounts by, among other options, having a verification code sent to their mobile phone.The majority of cases observed affect Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail users.Using Gmail as an example, the following steps describe how the attack works.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) patriarch Lal Krishna Advani has said he fears that an emergency like situation could arise again and India's political system is still to come to terms with the Emergency.The veteran party leader's remarks come even as the Modi government faces heat from the opposition over Lalit Modi and Sushma Swaraj row.In an interview to Indian Express, ahead of the 40th Anniversary of the emergency, LK Advani said that "forces that can crush democracy" are stronger.

#* Impossible to re-conduct AIPMT examination within 4 weeks, CBSE tells Supreme Court

New Delhi: The All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) examination is slated to be delayed further with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) now saying that it is "impossible" to conduct it within four weeks. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear CBSE plea seeking more time to re-conduct the pre-medical exam. This comes three days after the Supreme Court scrapped the AIPMT examination held on May 5, and ordered CBSE to conduct fresh exams within four weeks time.
The AIPMT results, originally slated to be declared on June 5, were earlier stayed following allegations of malpractice in the examination with as many as 700 students receiving answer keys through mobile phones. The fate of at least 6.3 lakh MBBS aspirants has been hanging in balance because of the delay in the examination.
