#* Supreme Court slams Madras High Court order, says mediation in rape case is against woman's dignity
After a Madras High Court judge granted bail to a rape accused so that he can meet the victim for a possible "mediation", the Supreme Court slammed the Tamil Nadu judge for his attitude which is against the "dignity of a woman."
A Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said that any compromise promising wedlock between a rape accused and the victim compromises the dignity of the woman. The court said that such a compromise lacks sensitivity on the part of those promoting a settlement, IANS reported.
The top court's comments on Wednesday were made in the context of another rape case from Madhya Pradesh. Holding that courts cannot take a soft approach on the issue, the SC bench described the HC ruling as a "spectacular error" and lack of sensitivity on the part of a lower court which had allowed a rapist to go scot-free by accepting an agreement on wedlock.
#* Varun Gandhi offered to 'settle' my deal with Sonia: Lalit Modi
BJP parliamentarian Varun Gandhi was dragged into a raging controversy involving former IPL boss Lalit Modi on Wednesday after the ex-cricket administrator alleged the Sultanpur MP offered him a deal to “settle everything” in the Congress with Sonia Gandhi.
In a series of tweets, Modi said the young Gandhi came to see him at his house a few years ago and said he could settle everything in the Congress with his aunt.
“He wanted me to meet her sister from Italy. I heard him next I heard from our common friend who introduced us that Auntie wants 60 million dollars,” he tweeted.
“the auntie he refers to is #soniagandhi (sic). The sister is #soniagandhi sister - just for clarity.”
Hours later, Gandhi dismissed the charge and was backed by his party. "This is absolutely baseless and it is beneath my dignity to respond to this nonsense," he told PTI.
The BJP also rejected the allegations, saying he was in a party different from that of Sonia Gandhi's.
"Varun Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are in different parties and the world knows about the ties between the two families,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

#* Facebook Lite: How it is useful for both 2G and 3G users
New Delhi
Facebook launched its much talked app Facebook ‘Lite’ in India on Monday. The app as said by social media giant has been created for developing countries. Also, it is touted as the 2G special App. But it is interesting to know it is useful for 3G users from India as well.
Actually, FB Lite is built to use lesser data and work well in constrained telecommunications network conditions. So for the users on 2G bandwith it uses lesser data and the streaming becomes hassle-free. But in India, users who are on 3G can save a lot of data by using this application.
The application supports all features of Facebook which consume lesser data, such as viewing and commenting on their News Feed, posting Status Updates, viewing and sharing photos, receiving notifications, messaging friends, having group conversations, and more. What it doesn’t support is videos and advanced location services which consume higher data.
So, if you are 3G user and stream videos on Facebook, curb your data usage by Facebook lite.
Here is what Vijay Shankar, the Product Manager of Facebook Lite has to say about “There is a large number of users who are on 2G, and one of the feedbacks we have received is that the app does not load fast on some devices. This lighter version has been developed so that the app works well across all network conditions and on all types of phones”.
