#* Rahul Gandhi Meets Striking Sanitation Workers in Delhi as Garbage Crisis Mounts
NEW DELHI:  Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi sat on the ground surrounded by protesting sanitation workers in East Delhi, parts of which have turned into giant garbage dumps with a estimated 15,000 tons of waste rotting on roadsides in the sweltering summer heat.About 12,000 sanitation workers or safai karamcharis in the capital have been on a strike for ten days now, refusing to work without being paid their salary - they haven't been paid in two months."Delhi government says it's the responsibility of Government of India and Government of India says its Delhi government's problem... Both are making excuses," Mr Gandhi told the striking workers today, adding, "I have all the time for you and can sit with you for hours if you want."The workers' demand is caught in a political tug-of-war between the BJP, which controls the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and the Delhi government of the Aam Aadmi Party. Both accuse the other of not releasing adequate funds to pay the workers. As the capital heads towards a massive public health crisis, the Congress said Mr Gandhi is meeting the safai karamcharis to express solidarity with them. In the assembly elections held in February, the Congress was wiped out. They party holds not a single seat now in Delhi, which it ruled for 15 straight years till 2013.

#* Peeved Kejriwal may expel Jitender Tomar from AAP after degree controversy
Former minister Jitender Singh Tomar on Friday faced the prospect of expulsion from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other senior party leaders were unhappy about documents that he allegedly doctored to prove his educational degrees were genuine.Tomar, who has been arrested by Delhi Police on the charge of faking his degrees, allegedly doctored a reply under the Right To Information (RTI) Act from a college in Uttar Pradesh to show he had completed his bachelor’s degree from there.Sources said while the leadership was unhappy with the current turn of events, the party had decided to side it self from Tomar.Earlier this week, Delhi Police took him to the RML Awadh University in Faizabad to verify his claim that he had passed his BSc from KS Saket College in the Uttar Pradesh town. The 49-year-old allegedly submitted forged academic documents including mark sheets, a BSC degree, provisional documents and his law degree to the Delhi Bar Council in 2010.

#* Who died? How many? Sticky questions cast unflattering shadow oWho died? How many? Sticky questions cast unflattering shadow over Myanmar op
Even as the Modi government steadily dialled down its rhetoric on the Indian Army operation in Myanmar, questions are now being raised over just how much the mission achieved.
The death toll from the strike has been kept under wraps since news of the operation broke. The official Indian Army press release made no mention of the number of militants who were killed in the attack, sticking instead to a cryptic phrase, ' significant casualties'. News reports pegged the death toll anywhere between 20 to 50, with some hinting that it was as high as 100.However, the Hindustan Times (report only in print) quoted the NSCN which claims that it has suffered no casualties and had even hosted a party for those involved in the Manipur attack on the Indian Army's soldiers on 4 June in which 18 were killed. The report also pointed out that the special forces weren't expected to keep a tally of the number of dead in an operation and the estimate of the death toll is based on a general assessment and on radio intercepts following the attack.

#* 15 yrs on, Bangladesh still lag behind in Tests
DHAKA: It was an emotional day for Bangladesh cricket when the ICC awarded them Test status on June 26, 2000. The BCCI, which backed Bangladesh's Test cause, was quick to send the national team to play the inaugural Test here in November 2000.Bangladesh, led by Naimur Rahman, went down to Sourav Ganguly's India by nine wickets, but were far from disgraced. Bangladesh players, in fact, displayed good technique and temperament to bat more than 150 overs in posting 400 runs in their first innings. Their bowlers then reduced India to 236/6 before Ganguly and Sunil Joshi got into the rescue act. A 29-run first-innings lead ought to have counted for little on Bangabandhu Stadium's flat track, but with virtually no experience of five-day cricket behind them, Bangladesh capitulated for a mere 91 in 46.3 overs in their second essay . In spite of the crushing defeat, the Bangla Tigers were hailed as heroes, and rightly so. It was envisaged that with proper infrastructure and more exposure and experience, Bangladesh would emerge as a worthy Test opponent.

#* Solar Impulse craft inspires solar train for Indian Railways
India may soon be able showcase to the world a solar train, which uses a mix of thermal power and solar energy generated from panels on its roof.Science and technology minister Harsh Vardhan said he was inspired by Switzerland’s Solar Impulse project. “I got the inspiration when the Solar Impulse, the Swiss long range experimental solar powered aircraft landed in India,” he said. The minister described the project as the government’s bid to have a moving solar power plant. “We are looking into the project plan and once the demos are done we will collaborate with other concerned ministries,” he said. To start with, the government will do a pilot on a goods train and if successful it will be replicated to other trains. The train will meet 15% of the energy requirement when on the move from the solar energy. National solar energy expert tasked with engineering the project Gon Chaudhuri told HT, “A unique feature would be that when the train is stationary, 100% of the power will be exported to the grid. So it is like a mobile solar power plant”.When the solar radiation falls on a solar cell, direct current is generated which gets converted into an alternating current with a high efficient inverter. This is then synchronised with the grid. Since the train will be moving less dust will accumulate on the panels — a factor that reduces efficiency of solar rooftop systems, Chaudhuri explained.
